Writers union opposes Amr Diab’s phone

The popular cell phone company Nokia and the Egyptian Telecommunication Company and Raya announced in a recent press conference the release of the latest version of cell phones by Nokia called “Amr Diab”. This marks the first time that a cell phone is named after a famous person. The new phone features ring tones of songs by the singer in addition to wall posters of him.

The Egyptian Writers and Composers Union announced that the company Nokia did not receive permission from the union to release the “Amr Diab” phone, and it should have gotten their permission before making such a move in order to make sure that their rights as composers and writers of the songs on the phone are not violated. It was added that if the matter is not resolved between Nokia and the union legal actions will take place.
