As far as Arab pop stars go, he’s as big as they get. We speak to global musician Amr Diab ahead of his performance tonight.  There are pop stars, and than there’s Amr Diab.

You’re credited with helping to export your unique blend of Arabic music to the West. Why was it so important for you to gain recognition outside of the Middle East? Its not only important to me, its important for the whole Arab region to have international recognition in all aspects, not just music.

Your fan base spans across the globe to countries that don’t even understand the lyrics to your songs. Why do you think that is?  I am very proud of that, especially when I see a lot of my fans who don’t speak or understand Arabic and still sing my songs without understanding the meaning. This is one of the things that motivates me to produce new music.
