Cairo for a very Happy New Year

Stars welcome the New Year in Cairo

The city of Cairo will be hosting the largest number of singers this year for New Year’s Eve concerts, since many are avoiding holding concerts in Lebanon due to the current unstable security conditions.

According to the London based Elaph, Lebanese singer Haifa Wahbi has changed her annual tradition of welcoming the New Year in Lebanon and will be holding a concert at the Samir Amis hotel in Cairo. Egyptian singer Amr Diab has also decided to spend New Year’s Eve in Cairo and will be holding two concerts, changing his usual tradition of holding performances in Europe and the USA. Controversial Egyptian singer Ruby will also be performing at the Concorde Al Salam hotel in Cairo.

The competition of performing at the best hotels in Cairo increased among singers like Tamer Husni, Mustafa Amar, Ehab Tawfiq, and Hamada Hilal. Arab Superstar Ragheb Alamah also decided to change his usual venue for holding New Year’s Eve concerts in Cairo and will be performing with the Gypsy Kings in Dubai. Other singers like Egyptian signer Hani Shaker and Lebanese singer Diana Haddad have decided to hold their performances outside the Arab world. Hani will be performing in Germany, whereas Diana will hold her concert in Australia.

Lebanese singer/actress Nicole Saba is preparing for several New Year’s Eve concerts in Egypt for a second year. Some of the most prestigious hotels in Cairo have asked the singer to perform, and one concert will be alongside prominent Egyptian singer Amr Diab. Last year’s concerts earned her the love of many Egyptian fans. Link

Happily, Amr will definitely be in Egypt for the New Year's Eve 2005-2006 festivities. Two confirmed gigs for the night are at the Four Seasons Hotel, (Garden City, Cairo) and at the Conrad Hotel (Cairo). Both are on the Corniche El Nil, neither are cheap (most tickets range from 100-200 Euro, none less, some more)

Egyptian super star Amr Diab has begun the countdown for the release of his long awaited album "Kamil Kalamak" (Finish Talking). Amr has also agreed with American director Cameron Casey to film new music videos for songs from the album. The cooperation will mark the second between the two, the first being the singer's clip, "Laili Nahari" (My Night is Day).

Amr Diab and Muna Zaki united

Egyptian pop star Amr Diab intends on returning to the big screen after a fifteen year absence, and will begin filming the new movie “Al Muhtarif” (The Expert), written by Dr. Midhat Al Adel. Amr has nominated actress Muna Zaki to star in the film that will be directed by Ahmad Nader Jalal. Amr has also agreed with screen writer Dr. Nabil Farouq to begin another film titled “Al Araaf” (The Predictor) and hopes to begin filming by the summer.

Although Amr’s acting plans are on hold until he releases his long awaited album “Kamil Kalamak” (Finish Your Words). The singer revealed that he reached an agreement with American director Cameron Casey to film a number of music videos for songs from the new album. This will mark Amr’s second cooperation with Cameron, who directed the singer’s clip “Laili Nahari” (My Night is Day).

Diab has admitted that he does not know when his upcoming album will be released, stressing that he needs to take as much time as possible to ensure that it is of the highest quality. The real problem he is facing with the album is the small details, which form the basis of any work’s success, Amr explained.
